Leading With Purpose, Protecting With Passion
At M Bar C Construction, safety isn’t just a requirement; it’s a value deeply embedded in every beam we raise and every project we complete. No one exemplifies this more than Justin Bailey, Safety Manager. From arriving on-site with no prior construction experience to becoming a CHST-certified leader with degrees in both Construction Management and Occupational Health & Safety, Justin’s journey is a powerful reflection of growth, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to people.
From the Field to the Forefront
“I couldn’t even read a tape measure when I started,” Justin recalls. That humility, paired with his drive, fueled a rapid rise from entry-level to foreman, and ultimately to his current leadership role.
Mike Prescott, Director of Quality Control/Assurance and R&D (and former Safety Director), saw something in Justin early on:
“When it came time to elevate our safety program, I knew we needed someone who could fully dedicate themselves to building on the foundation we started. Justin Bailey was that person. His eagerness to learn and his consistent effort made him the clear choice. Thanks to his leadership, safety at M Bar C is no longer something we do; it’s something we believe in. That shift is felt by our crews and recognized by our clients.”
Justin quickly understood that safety isn’t just about compliance, it’s about people. “Safety isn’t a box to check. It’s about protecting individuals, their families, and the company as a whole.” That mindset drove him to pursue advanced training and certifications, transforming what had started as a job into a mission.
Safety Built Into Every Beam
What makes M Bar C unique? For Justin, it’s ownership. “We don’t subcontract our installations. Our crews are M Bar C trained and invested in our culture.” This internal consistency allows Justin’s team to embed safety at every stage, from custom Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and pre-task plans to weekly tailgate meetings and toolbox talks.
One moment that stands out: A foreman identified a critical equipment issue just before a major lift. “Thanks to our systems and the crew’s attention to detail, we caught it before it became a problem. That’s what a strong safety culture looks like.”
Why Safety Matters to Our Clients
A culture of safety doesn’t just protect workers, it benefits clients as well. “It reduces downtime, prevents rework, and keeps projects on track,” Justin says. With over 1,700 days incident-free, M Bar C’s record speaks for itself.
Justin’s advice for facility managers choosing a carport partner? “Ask who’s doing the work. If it’s all subcontractors, be cautious. Safety is only as strong as the team carrying it out.”
Leadership That Listens
Justin’s leadership style centers on engagement and respect. His safety trainings are anything but ordinary; he brings humor, real-world scenarios, and interactive problem-solving to the table. “Cookie-cutter training doesn’t work for experienced crews,” he explains. “If you care about the people you’re leading, they’ll care about doing it right.”
His impact is felt across the country, as his field leaders carry forward the safety-first mindset he models every day.
A Culture That Cares
What drives Justin most is the opportunity to protect the same crews he used to work beside. “M Bar C believed in growing from within, and they lived it. Now I get to protect the people I’ve come to know. It’s personal.”
And it’s also professional. With complex solar carport and parking garage installations across public, commercial, and educational sectors, safety isn’t optional; it’s essential.
Michael Patterson, Vice President of Operations, puts it simply:
“Safety is our number one value at M Bar C, but Justin stands out as exemplary in his commitment to making sure every man and woman in this company goes home safely. His leadership is critical to our success.”
Thanks to leaders like Justin Bailey, M Bar C Construction doesn’t just raise structures; we raise the bar.
